An escape room for a sleepover or slumber party, right at home. The pillow fort is built, the flashlights are on… but the snack stash is gone! The mysterious Night Owl has locked it in the Night Vault. Can the kids crack every clue before lights out? Exciting, but not scary.

How it works

There are 8 puzzles and the Night Vault. Each puzzle gives a 4-digit code, and the check card shows the kids whether it’s right: a correct code spells a real word. Together, the words crack the Night Vault. Along the way they hold a secret letter up to a flashlight, work out who sleeps where in the fort, count the treat table, decode owl writing, cut a window out of a pillowcase, spot a pattern in the pajamas, put a film strip in order and guess sounds in the dark.

What’s inside

  • 8 puzzles and the Night Vault, with 2 junior puzzles for the youngest players (age 8)
  • Game host guide up front: print list, about 15 minutes of prep, hiding plan and timetable
  • Envelope labels, the Night Owl’s note to read aloud and a check card
  • Hints in 3 steps for every puzzle, an answer key and an emergency card
  • A reveal (who is the Night Owl?), certificates, Night Owl badges, a door sign and photo props
  • 25 pages, in A4 and US Letter

Who it’s for

For kids aged 8 to 12: at a sleepover, a slumber party, an overnight birthday or simply a game night. With more kids, play in teams of 3–4, each with its own set, or as a race. A daytime birthday with younger kids (6–12)? Take a look at The Missing Birthday Cake. A sleepover with teens (12–16)? Take a look at Escape Room for Teens.

FAQ

Is it too scary?
No. It’s exciting, with flashlights and sounds in the dark, but nothing nasty happens. The Night Owl is a friendly owl, and at the end the kids find out who it really is.

Is it too hard for an 8-year-old?
Two puzzles are made especially for the youngest players. If a puzzle gets tricky, the hints help in 3 steps: first a nudge, then a big hint, then almost the answer.

Does a parent need to play?
No. A parent sets up the game in about 15 minutes, hands out the envelopes and keeps track of the hints.
