For 3–8 players · Ages 12–16 · 45–75 min · Print & play tonight

An escape room for teens that you can print and play tonight, right at home. Perfect for a birthday party or a sleepover: the group works together, cracks the puzzles and tries to escape. Challenging enough for ages 12 to 16, without anyone being stuck all night.

The story: Midnight Lockdown

It is 11 pm and the party has just got going. Then NOVA, the smart home assistant, goes haywire: the doors lock, the wifi drops and the pizza is stuck in the smart oven. NOVA leaves behind a game with 8 firewalls. Crack them all before midnight and you can enter the reboot code. Can you do it?

How it works

There are 8 puzzles and a final puzzle. Each puzzle gives a 4-digit code, and the check card shows you whether it is right: a correct code spells a real word. Got both words of a round? Then you may open the next envelope. The host sets a 60-minute timer; if you need longer, just keep playing. You read a lock screen, do maths with emoji, cut out a secret key, fold a page and hold it up to the light, turn a cipher wheel, study camera footage and decode a blinking light. Each round has two puzzles at once, so the group can split up.

What's inside

  • 8 puzzles and a final puzzle the group solves together
  • A guide for the parent or host up front: print, fill the envelopes, start
  • Envelope labels, the story to read out loud and a check card
  • Hints in 3 steps for every puzzle, so nobody gives up
  • A complete answer key, an ending and a certificate
  • 17 pages, in A4 and US Letter

Who it's for

For teens aged 12 to 16: at a birthday, a sleepover, a game night with friends or a rainy afternoon with cousins. No adult needs to join in the puzzling. Younger kids (6–12)? Take a look at The Missing Birthday Cake.

FAQ

Isn't it too hard?
The puzzles are made for ages 12 to 16. If a puzzle won't crack, the hints help in 3 steps: first a nudge, then a direction, then almost the answer.

Does a parent need to play?
No. A parent, or a teen who isn't playing, sets the game up in about 10 minutes and keeps the hints. The host guide is at the front of the PDF. If the host wants to play along, they fill the envelopes without reading the puzzles.

Can a bigger group play?
The game is made for 3 to 8 players. Each round has two puzzles, so a group can easily split up. With more than 8 players, you can print a second set for your own party and play in two competing teams.

Do we need to cut anything?
A little. The host cuts out 5 envelope labels beforehand, and during the game the players cut out two parts themselves. That is part of the fun.
