Christmas Eve, dinner is done and nobody wants another round of cards. Try something different: an escape room you play right at your own table. Puzzles that actually challenge you, a story you crack together and all the festive mood without the kids' rhymes. Made for adults, for a night in with friends, family or your partner.
The story: The Winterberg Christmas Riddle
For fifty years, Clara Winterberg made the puzzles for the newspaper. She passed away this autumn, and she asked her family and friends to come to Winterberg House on Christmas Eve. Her notary hands you a stack of numbered envelopes: Clara's last Christmas riddle. Somewhere in the house she has hidden a surprise. Only together will you find it.
No crime and no violence: this is a warm Christmas story where you work together.
How it works
The game is a chain of 10 envelopes. Each puzzle gives you a 4-digit code, and that code lets you open the next envelope. The check card (page 3) shows you whether your code is right: the right code spells a real word. Step by step, you work your way to the ending together. No phone, internet or online codes needed: everything is on paper.
What's inside
- 9 puzzles you solve together, tied together by one story: from maths with Christmas ornaments and a seating plan to a maze in the snowy garden, a sudoku and a star chart
- A one-page host guide: print, fill the envelopes and play
- A check card, so you can see for yourselves whether a code is right
- Hints in 3 steps for every puzzle: a nudge first, almost the answer only at the end
- An answer key with the full solution path
- An ending and a certificate
- 18 pages, in A4 and US Letter (choose English or Dutch when you order)
Who it's for
For adults (16+) who love puzzles, or who want to try an escape room for the first time. No trivia knowledge or wordplay needed, just sharp minds and each other. No. The rules are on page 3, and if you get stuck, the hints help you step by step.
Can the host play along?
Yes. The host fills the envelopes using the chart on page 2, without reading the puzzles, and then simply plays along.
What if we get stuck?
Pages 15 and 16 have 3 hints for every puzzle, from a small nudge to almost the answer. The answer key on page 17 is for emergencies.
Do I need internet or a phone?
